Find It Local Magazine interviews local entrepreneur Stuart Mundy, Managing Director of SDM Corporation Limited. SDM Productions is a Marketing & Design Agency offering Printing, Website Design, Graphic Design and PR & Marketing Services. Stuart also holds investments in other businesses.

As Stuart enters his 5th year of business, we were keen to find out how he has turned SDM Productions into the successful marketing organisation that it is today.

When you were young did you ever envisage being a business owner?

No, I left school at the age of 16 and went straight into work; it was only when I was 25 that I decided I wanted to run my own business. Looking back though I have always been quite an entrepreneurial person. 

What made you decide to start your own business?

I was always a business minded person and held high profile positions in my various job roles but I wanted more control over my career and decided owning my own business was the way to do this. 

Did you feel it was a risk and was it the right decision?

Absolutely, I started with less that £5,000. My family were very supportive though in my decision especially my Mum. She has been my rock, always giving me advice and motivating me through difficult times. It was definitely, the right decision though. Running your own business is stressful as you have so many plates to juggle on a daily basis but it is also very rewarding.

What has been your greatest success?

I am very lucky that I employ a great team of individuals, without my team my success wouldn’t have happened. They are all dedicated to getting the job done which has helped the business grow tenfold. Back in November last year we were

able to open our own retail studio in Fareham and I am so proud to say my business now has a home. 

And your biggest mistake?

Back in 2008 I sold a stake in my company which turned out to be a bad move, I started to lose control of my business and I was unable to make my own decisions. Thankfully I was able buy it back and regain control again. I thought it would be a good move, and to most I would say go for it as long as you know who you are going into business with.

What are your future goals?

To continue to expand SDM Productions growing portfolio of services allowing us to offer customers a ‘One Stop Shop’ for all their Marketing requirements.
